The People’s Alliance party is currently contemplating disciplinary actions against Lynda Tabuya, the former Minister for Women, Children and Social Protection, following the emergence of a leaked video. Sila Balawa, the party’s general secretary, has confirmed that the party has begun its disciplinary procedures in response to complaints received from members.

Balawa pointed out that while the internal investigation is underway, the holiday season is causing some delays in forming the necessary committees for this process. “It’s in progress, but, being the holiday period, constituting the disciplinary committee or investigating committee will require a few days as people have gone to spend Christmas with families and relatives around the country,” he stated.

The situation has raised alarms regarding its potential impact on the party’s public image and adherence to governance standards. Balawa acknowledged the seriousness of the matter but reiterated the party’s commitment to tackle it responsibly. He asserted that although the party aims to maintain a public image aligned with its values, they recognize that unfortunate incidents can occur. Thus, a careful and comprehensive investigation is deemed necessary, allowing for all perspectives to be considered before making decisions.

He emphasized the importance of accountability in public office, stating, “In public office, your private life is always up for public scrutiny.” Recommended actions will be made based on the findings of the Disciplinary Committee upon the completion of their investigation.

This investigation reflects the party’s dedication to integrity and transparency, showcasing their proactive approach to addressing issues within its ranks, ultimately aiming to uphold standards of accountability that can restore public trust.

In summary, the People’s Alliance party is addressing a serious incident involving a former minister, taking steps to ensure accountability while balancing the demands of the holiday season and the need for thoroughness in their investigation. The commitment to transparency could foster trust and reaffirm their values among the party members and the public.
