The Minister for Communications, Manoa Kamikamica, is scheduled to receive the Office of the Auditor-General’s report concerning the investigation into Walesi Pte Limited this week. This disclosure came during his visit to Labasa, where he addressed the public’s concerns about the state-owned digital television platform.

The inquiry, which was initiated last year, focuses on allegations of excessive spending and operational irregularities within Walesi. Minister Kamikamica reassured the public, stating, “I have heard a few concerns, and if there is anything to report to the Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption, we will do it.”

This investigation aims to evaluate whether proper financial management procedures were followed in relation to Walesi’s funds, vendor selection, and procurement activities since its establishment in 2015. Minister Kamikamica previously indicated that approximately $125 million had been spent on the establishment of Walesi under the prior government.

The upcoming report from the Auditor-General is anticipated to shed light on the justification and management of these expenditures, potentially leading to greater transparency in the operations of Walesi.

This investigation highlights a commitment to transparency and accountability in government operations, with hopes that the findings will lead to improvements within the digital platform, ensuring it serves the community effectively. It’s a positive step toward addressing public concerns and fostering trust in government processes.
