Digicel Fiji has announced the recipients of its 16th anniversary Community Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative, granting $16,000 to three community projects spread across Fiji’s Northern, Central, and Western regions. This initiative highlights Digicel’s commitment to supporting community-driven projects that foster sustainable development and promote local empowerment.
Shally Jannif, the CEO of Digicel Pacific Regional HUB Markets, expressed enthusiasm for backing these initiatives, emphasizing the significance of celebrating 16 years in Fiji through meaningful investments in communities. The awarded projects include the Sustainable Solar Energy project for Mokani Village in the East, the Nadroga/Navosa Resource Centre in the West, and solar streetlights in Karoko Village, located in the North.
The Sustainable Solar Energy project, led by Mokani Youth Club adviser Joeli Vueti, aims to enhance safety and accessibility in the village using solar-powered systems for lighting communal spaces, pathways, and areas for children to study. Vueti noted, “This project will light up our community,” underscoring the critical role renewable energy plays in creating safer environments.
The Nadroga/Navosa Resource Centre, driven by Soqosoqo Vakamarama, seeks to establish a permanent resource hub designed to facilitate income-generating activities such as a cafeteria and cultural events. Coordinator Amete Volavola celebrated the grant as a response to their year’s long planning and aspirations.
Finally, the installation of solar-powered streetlights in Karoko Village, led by community leader Josefa Matagasau, aims to bolster safety for women and children while demonstrating the transformative potential of renewable energy.
Digicel Fiji’s initiatives not only reflect its commitment to community innovation and empowerment but also set a precedent for grassroots development throughout the nation. This support could enhance the quality of life for many Fijians, as these projects focus on sustainability and empowerment.
In summary, Digicel Fiji’s CSR initiative highlights the importance of community engagement and renewable energy in promoting long-term development. By investing in these projects, the company is not just celebrating its anniversary, but also laying the groundwork for a brighter and more sustainable future for communities across Fiji.
