Digicel Fiji has proudly revealed the winners of its 16th anniversary Community Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative, offering grants of $16,000 each to three community projects located in the Northern, Central, and Western regions of Fiji. This initiative highlights Digicel’s deep-rooted commitment to making a positive impact in the communities it serves.

Shally Jannif, the chief executive officer of Digicel Pacific Regional HUB Markets, emphasized the excitement surrounding this initiative, aimed at supporting projects that empower local populations and nurture sustainable development. “Through this initiative, we are giving back to communities and investing in projects that will yield lasting benefits for all Fijians. Celebrating 16 years in Fiji is momentous, and there is no better way to commemorate it than by contributing to our communities’ future,” stated Ms. Jannif.

The funded projects include the Sustainable Solar Energy initiative for Mokani Village, the Nadroga/Navosa Resource Centre in the West, and the Karoko solar streetlight project in the North. Joeli Vueti, adviser for the Mokani Youth Club, expressed optimism about the solar-powered systems’ potential to deliver clean and reliable energy to vital community facilities, enhancing safety, particularly for women and children. “This project will illuminate our community,” he noted.

In the West, the Nadroga/Navosa Resource Centre initiative, spearheaded by the Soqosoqo Vakamarama, aims to create a permanent resource hub promoting income-generating activities like a cafeteria and traditional craft sales. Coordinator Amete Volavola shared, “We’re thankful that our prayers have been answered, and this grant fulfills part of our plans from the last year.”

The third initiative, featuring solar streetlights in Karoko Village, aims to enhance safety and showcase the transformative potential of renewable energy. Community leader Josefa Matagasau expressed his enthusiasm, stating, “We look forward to a brighter and more secure Karoko.”

Digicel Fiji’s investment in these community-driven projects not only reflects its dedication to innovation and sustainability but also sets a strong example of grassroots development in Fiji. With such initiatives, the future appears brighter for these communities, fostering a spirit of empowerment and resilience.

This announcement serves as a testament to the power of corporate responsibility in driving positive change and strengthening local communities, paving the way for sustainable futures.
