Digicel Fiji has recently revealed the winners of its 16th anniversary Community Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative, awarding grants of $16,000 each to three community-driven projects across the Northern, Central, and Western regions of Fiji. This initiative reflects Digicel’s ongoing commitment to giving back to the communities it serves.
Shally Jannif, the CEO of Digicel Pacific Regional HUB Markets, expressed enthusiasm for supporting projects that empower local residents and contribute to sustainable development. She stated, “Through this initiative, we are giving back to communities and investing in projects that will create lasting benefits for all Fijians.” This celebration of 16 years in Fiji serves as a timely reminder of the importance of investing in community futures.
The awarded projects include renewable energy initiatives aimed at improving quality of life for residents. The Sustainable Solar Energy project for Mokani Village will install solar-powered systems to provide reliable energy, enhancing safety for women and children through improved lighting in pathways and communal spaces. Joeli Vueti, an adviser for the Mokani Youth Club, highlighted the project’s potential to transform their village by empowering locals to manage their energy needs.
The second initiative involves the establishment of the Nadroga/Navosa Resource Centre by Soqosoqo Vakamarama, which aims to create a permanent hub for income-generating activities, such as a cafeteria and traditional craft sales. Coordinator Amete Volavola expressed gratitude for the grant, viewing it as a promising step toward implementing their goals.
Lastly, the project in Karoko Village will involve installing solar-powered streetlights, aimed at enhancing safety and demonstrating the benefits of renewable energy. Community leader Josefa Matagasau conveyed optimism about the positive changes the project will bring to their village.
Digicel Fiji emphasized that these projects exemplify its dedication to community innovation, sustainability, and empowerment while setting an important standard for grassroots development in the country.
In summary, Digicel Fiji’s initiative not only marks a milestone in their operational journey but also underscores its commitment to fostering sustainable developments that positively impact Fijian communities. As these projects come to fruition, they promise to illuminate lives and promote a safer environment for all residents. This positive investment reflects a hopeful trend towards community resilience and empowerment in Fiji.
