DIGICEL FIJI recently celebrated its 16th anniversary by announcing the recipients of its Community Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative, which will provide $16,000 in funding for three impactful community projects located in Fiji’s Northern, Central, and Western regions.

Shally Jannif, the CEO of Digicel Pacific Regional HUB Markets, expressed excitement at the opportunity to support local projects that enhance the lives of residents while contributing to sustainable development. “Through this initiative, we are giving back to communities, investing in projects that create lasting benefits for all Fijians. Celebrating 16 years in Fiji is a momentous occasion, and what better way to mark it than by investing in the future of our communities,” she stated.

The funded projects include installations of renewable energy solutions and resource centers aimed at benefitting their respective communities. The first, Sustainable Solar Energy for Mokani Village in the East, will implement solar-powered systems to ensure clean and reliable energy for vital facilities. Joeli Vueti, a youth club adviser, highlighted the importance of this project for community safety and self-reliance.

The second initiative, led by the Soqosoqo Vakamarama, is the Nadroga/Navosa Resource Centre, which aims to create a hub for income-generating activities such as a cafeteria and cultural events. Coordinator Amete Volavola noted that this grant represents a significant advancement for their year-long planning efforts.

Lastly, the installation of solar-powered streetlights in Karoko Village will enhance safety and illuminate the area, with community leader Josefa Matagasau emphasizing the importance of renewable energy in transforming their lives.

Digicel Fiji underscores its commitment to community innovation, sustainable practices, and empowerment through these projects, setting a standard for grassroots development in Fiji.

By investing in such community projects, Digicel Fiji not only fulfills its corporate responsibility but also fosters a sense of hope and progress for the local populace. As finances and resources are directed toward areas with significant needs, the company illustrates the positive impact of corporate involvement in community welfare, paving the way for a sustainable future.
