Devo Babas Triumph: A Historic Six Wins in Fiji Rugby 7s!

The Viti Roofing Devo Babas celebrated a significant milestone by becoming the champions of the Fiji Bitter 7s series after clinching victory at the Marist 7s tournament last Saturday. This triumph marks their sixth tournament win, having previously succeeded in competitions at Wairiki, Labasa, Savusavu, Tabadamu, and Nawaka.

In the men’s cup final held at the HFC Bank Stadium in Suva, the Devo Babas defeated the Axellerate Dominion Brothers with a score of 10-5. The match had a thrilling start, with Dominion Brothers taking an early lead thanks to a try from national player Iliavi Masori. However, the Devo Babas regrouped in the second half, scoring two crucial tries through Aisake Peni and Rusiate Matai to secure their victory.

Coach Bill Ratute, who has led the team since its inception four years ago, expressed his gratitude, attributing the team’s success to divine guidance and the efforts of his players. “It’s been a great achievement for us, from a team that just had its fourth anniversary last week,” Ratute remarked. He emphasized the importance of enjoying the game and maintaining strong connections with their community, which has become vital to the team’s identity and spirit.

The Devo Babas debuted in the Fiji Bitter 7s series during the second edition at the Malake 7s last October. Their recent victories have not only solidified their reputation in the rugby sevens circuit but have also inspired the local community, showcasing the enduring spirit and talent of Fijian rugby.

This achievement reflects the dedication and hard work of the Devo Babas, serving as a beacon of hope and an inspiration for future generations of rugby players in Fiji. As they continue to celebrate their current success, excitement builds for what lies ahead for this promising team and the vibrant rugby culture they represent.
