Devo Babas triumphed in the 2025 Niu Power Sports Tok Rugby Sevens Cup, securing their victory in Papua New Guinea on Saturday with a score of 15-5 against Mantas in the final held at Bava Park, Port Moresby. This win follows an impressive undefeated run in the tournament, demonstrating the team’s remarkable skills and fast-paced style of play under the guidance of coach Bill Ratute.

In the semifinal, Devo Babas defeated City Pirates with a solid performance, clinching the victory with a score of 29-15. Although Mantas initially scored, Devo Babas responded powerfully, scoring 15 unanswered points to take home the cup and the K20,000 prize in the open men’s division.

Coach Ratute noted that for many players, this was their first experience traveling abroad by plane, and he expressed gratitude to Niu Power for their support in arranging the trip. Highlighting the physicality and talent observed during the tournament, Ratute remarked on the impressive play of the PNG teams and emphasized the need for further development of rugby in the region.

This victory builds on the success of the Devo Babas following their win in the Marist 7s in Fiji, placing them firmly on the international rugby map as they prepare for future competitions. Ratute conveyed optimism for the team’s growth and aspirations under the Fiji Rugby Union’s banner, indicating that they are on an exciting path. The Devo Babas will return home tomorrow, inspired and eager to continue their journey in rugby.

The triumph not only underscores the Devo Babas’ commitment and teamwork but also acts as an inspiration for aspiring rugby players in Fiji, reflecting the vibrant rugby culture within the community. The positive outlook for the team’s future suggests a promising pathway ahead for both the players and the sport in Fiji.
