Families in Ba, Lautoka, and Tavua are facing significant challenges after their homes were inundated by heavy rainfall overnight. Many residents from low-lying areas have been forced to evacuate their properties and seek temporary shelter elsewhere.
Divisional Commissioner Western for Police, Apolosi Lewaqai, provided updates indicating that, despite the distress caused, there is a glimmer of hope as floodwaters begin to recede. He noted that while some families have been relocated to evacuation centers, the situation is improving.
“As of now, the water is receding in Lautoka, Ba, and Tavua. We have received reports of families in Ba who were stranded and required assistance to move to safer locations,” Lewaqai shared. He assured the community that efforts are in place to continue supporting those affected until conditions fully stabilize.
Looking forward, Lewaqai expressed optimism, stating, “Today, we expect everyone to begin returning to normalcy. We are committed to assisting families and businesses as they transition back to their routines.”
