Heavy rainfall last night has led to severe flooding in the Ba, Lautoka, and Tavua regions, leaving families in low-lying areas in distress as their homes became submerged. Many residents have been forced to seek temporary shelter due to the uninhabitable conditions in their houses.

Apolosi Lewaqai, Divisional Commissioner Western for Police, provided an update, indicating that while some families continue to relocate, there is a positive development as the floodwaters are beginning to recede. He reported that families in Lautoka, Ba, and Tavua are starting to see the water levels drop, allowing for some hope of returning home soon.

Lewaqai noted that assistance is being provided to those affected, as emergency responses are in place for families who remain stranded. He expressed optimism that residents will return to normalcy today, stating, “So today, they will go back to normal, and we are trying to help families and businesses reach this normalcy.”

The situation, while alarming, is showing signs of improvement, and community efforts are being mobilized to support those impacted. This resilience and unity during challenging times highlight the strength of the local communities in facing such adversities.

In summary, while the flooding has caused significant disruption and distress, there is hope on the horizon as floodwaters recede and recovery efforts begin. The swift response from authorities and community support is crucial in aiding the affected families to rebuild and restore their lives.
