A family in Malawai, Nadi, has been left homeless after a fire destroyed their two-storey, seven-bedroom home, along with their shop and Kava Bar. The incident occurred yesterday morning.
Abdul Munaf, the owner of the commercial property, had operated the family business for over 35 years. His son, Nazil Nabeel, stated that the shop had closed for the night on Saturday, and all family members were asleep when the fire started. The cause of the blaze is currently under investigation.
“The fire is believed to have initiated from the back. My two-bedroom apartment, the shop, and Kava Bar were all situated downstairs, while our family living space with five bedrooms was located upstairs,” Mr. Munaf explained.
He lamented, “We couldn’t save anything except the clothes we had on. At this moment, we are homeless and uncertain about where to go next. My parents are staying at a friend’s house.”
The family is grappling with the emotional toll of the loss. “It was heartbreaking to witness everything we’ve worked so hard for go up in flames,” he remarked.
The estimated damage from the fire is more than $100,000. The National Fire Authority is currently investigating the incident, and the police have also confirmed they are looking into the matter.
