A fire on Sele Road in Caubati, Nasinu, on Tuesday, September 3, has left 22 individuals displaced after two wooden houses were engulfed in flames.
The National Fire Authority received an emergency call at 9:59 AM and dispatched crews from Valelevu, Suva, and Nakasi fire stations. By 11:12 AM, firefighters had the blaze under control, although both homes sustained over 95% structural damage.
One of the houses was home to 17 people, while the other housed 5. An investigation into the cause of the fire is currently underway.
Puamau Sowane, the Chief Executive Officer of the National Fire Authority, emphasized the importance of fire safety, advising homeowners to utilize proper building materials and hire licensed electricians to minimize the risk of electrical faults, which are a common cause of residential fires.
