At 46, Ema Bi is a shining example of resilience and ambition, demonstrating that age is no barrier to achievement. A devoted mother of two, a widow, and a passionate nurse practitioner from Tuatua, Labasa, Ms. Bi was honored as the standout graduate at the TISI Sangam College of Nursing and Health Care Education graduation ceremony. She received a Postgraduate Diploma in Nursing Leadership and Management while taking home six prestigious awards, including Overall Academic Excellence.
Her performance in critical subjects such as Nursing Leadership in the 21st Century and Strategic Management in Nursing was exceptional, marking her as a leader in the field. Ms. Bi reflected on her journey, acknowledging the profound challenges she faced after the loss of her husband, Ashad Ali, who was her greatest supporter and constant source of encouragement.
“His belief in me was unwavering, as he always urged me to pursue my dreams,” she recalled. While juggling her postgraduate studies with an ongoing Master of Business Administration (MBA), Ms. Bi attributes her success to her mentor, Selina Waqa Ledua of the Fiji National Council, as well as the steadfast support from her family and friends.
“I remind myself that this is not the end of the road. With a positive mindset, anything is possible,” Ms. Bi stated, demonstrating her optimistic outlook on life. After dedicating 24 years to nursing, she believes it is the most rewarding profession, enabling her to profoundly impact the lives of others.
Her long-term aspiration is to become a chief nurse, and she encourages others to dream big and not to be deterred by life’s obstacles. “To mothers and widows, I say, never give up. Age is just a number, and God has given us one life to live. Make it count,” she emphasized.
