Ema Bi, a 46-year-old mother and dedicated nurse practitioner from Tuatua, Labasa, has made remarkable achievements in her educational journey, demonstrating that determination transcends age. At the recent graduation ceremony of TISI Sangam College of Nursing and Health Care Education, she was lauded for earning a Postgraduate Diploma in Nursing Leadership and Management and received six esteemed awards, including Overall Academic Excellence.
Ms. Bi, who works at the Labasa Health Centre, excelled in disciplines such as Nursing Leadership in the 21st Century and Strategic Management in Nursing. Her journey was not without its hardships; she lost her husband, Ashad Ali, who had always been her strongest supporter and encouraged her to pursue her dreams.
In addition to her postgraduate studies, Ms. Bi is also working toward a Master of Business Administration (MBA). She attributes much of her success to the unwavering support from her mentor, Selina Waqa Ledua, along with her family and friends. She emphasizes the importance of maintaining a positive attitude, stating, “I keep reminding myself that this is not the end of the road. With a positive mindset, anything is possible.”
With 24 years of experience in nursing, Ms. Bi considers it the most rewarding profession, noting its potential to profoundly impact others’ lives. Her aspiration to become a chief nurse serves as an inspiration to others, particularly to mothers and widows. She encourages them not to lose hope, insisting that age is merely a number and that life should be lived to the fullest.
This story not only celebrates Ema Bi’s achievements but also serves as a powerful reminder that it is never too late to pursue one’s passions and dreams. Her journey reaffirms the belief that with perseverance and support, anyone can overcome obstacles and achieve greatness.
In a world that often discourages individuals from pursuing education and professional growth later in life, Ms. Bi stands as a beacon of hope and possibility for many.
