Twelve painful days have elapsed since 29-year-old Arvin Chand went missing, leaving his family in deep sorrow and uncertainty. What began as a time of festive celebration for Diwali has turned into a distressing ordeal for Arvin’s loved ones.
On November 2, Arvin, who works as a bus driver, left home to drive a taxi for a close friend. He notified his mother that he was heading to work but did not say goodbye, marking the last time the family would see him.
Two days later, on November 4, Arvin’s abandoned taxi was discovered near the Suva Flea Market at 3 PM, with the doors left open and keys resting on the seat. Despite the police investigation, no signs of Arvin have been found, leaving his family in a painful limbo of hope and fear.
Arvin’s father, Satya Chand, expressed the torment of the situation, recounting sleepless nights filled with worry. “My wife and I pray every moment, hoping for a miracle, praying that our son walks back through that door safe and sound,” he said, visibly distressed. The family has been searching their neighborhoods and reaching out to friends and relatives, but each passing day without news deepens their despair.
Clinging to hope, the Chand family believes in the possibility of Arvin’s return, despite the increasing anxiety about his well-being. He was last seen wearing a blue dotted shirt, black jeans, and black safety boots, and he resides with his parents on Farm Road, 10 Miles, Nausori.
A missing person’s report has been filed at the Nakasi Police Station, and the Fiji Police Force is committed to continuing the search for him. In a heartfelt appeal, Mr. Chand urged the community to assist in finding his son. “Please, if anyone knows anything, help us find our son,” he pleaded.
While the situation remains grave and uncertain, the unwavering support from the community and the relentless search efforts provide a glimmer of hope that Arvin might still be found. The collective strength and determination to discover the truth can also serve as a reminder of the bonds that connect us all during troubling times.
