Twelve heartbreaking days have passed since 29-year-old Arvin Chand went missing, leaving his family in profound sorrow and uncertainty. What should have been a joyous Diwali celebration turned into a nightmare for Arvin’s parents. As a bus driver, he took a taxi job for a close friend on November 2nd.
That morning, Arvin informed his mother he was going to work, but did not say goodbye, marking the last time his family would see him. On November 4th, Arvin’s abandoned taxi was discovered near the Suva Flea Market around 3 PM. The doors were open, with the keys left in the vehicle, yet Arvin was nowhere to be found.
Despite the police launching an investigation, there have been no leads in locating him, leaving his family caught in a painful limbo of hope and dread. Mr. Satya Chand, Arvin’s father, expressed his anguish, stating, “I haven’t slept properly for days. My wife and I pray every moment, hoping for a miracle that our son walks back through that door safe and sound.”
The Chand family is searching everywhere—familiar spots, homes of relatives and friends—but each passing day without news deepens their heartache. They hold on to their faith, hoping that their son will return despite growing fears.
Last seen wearing a blue dotted shirt, black jeans, and black safety boots, Arvin resides with his parents on Farm Road, 10 Miles, Nausori. A missing person’s report has been filed at the Nakasi Police Station, and the Fiji Police Force has reassured the family that efforts to find him are ongoing. In an emotional appeal, Mr. Chand urged anyone with information to come forward, stating, “Please, if anyone knows anything, help us find our son.”
This situation highlights the strength of familial bonds and the resilience of hope in the face of despair. The community’s support and any leads from the public could play a crucial role in bringing Arvin back to his family. It is a poignant reminder of the importance of vigilance and care for one another within the community.
