Desperate Plea: Farming Community Faces Water Crisis

A farming community on the outskirts of Labasa Town is expressing frustration over the lack of response from authorities regarding their requests for water delivery. Sereana Tavatuilagi, a resident of Nagata, stated that their pleas for water carting have gone unanswered.

“We’ve been requesting a water cart for over a week now, but despite our repeated inquiries, there has been no action taken,” Ms. Tavatuilagi said. She added that after following up on their request, they were informed that a water cart service had been arranged, with a community member allegedly signing to confirm the service. However, residents have not observed any water supply truck from the Water Authority of Fiji in the area.

The farming community has been without access to clean drinking water for nearly a month. “Previously, water would come at night, allowing us to store it for drinking, cooking, and bathing, but now we are completely without water,” she lamented.

Efforts to obtain a comment from Northern Commissioner Uraia Rainima have been unsuccessful.
