The Ministry of Health and Medical Services has reported approximately 760 confirmed cases of dengue fever in the Western Division since the outbreak was declared on February 3, 2025. Citizens are urged to remain vigilant as the number of cases continues to increase despite the outbreak declaration primarily affecting the Western Division.

As of now, a total of 1,277 dengue cases have been reported nationwide this year—757 in the Western Division, 273 in the Central Division, 221 in the Northern Division, and 31 in the Eastern Division. Health officials attribute the uptick in dengue cases to recent heavy rainfall and flooding, which create ideal conditions for mosquito breeding, leading to higher transmission rates.

In response to this growing health threat, the Ministry is closely monitoring hospital admissions and has noted a significant rise in cases requiring hospitalization, particularly in the affected Western Division. To enhance their preventative efforts, the Ministry conducted training for divisional and subdivisional teams during the annual Divisional Outbreak Response Training last year, equipping them to effectively manage anticipated outbreaks.

The public is encouraged to take precautions, including following health advisory messages regarding dengue and leptospirosis, which are being disseminated across various media channels. Additionally, the Ministry is increasing its efforts in monitoring and controlling mosquito populations, as well as running awareness campaigns directed at reducing potential breeding sites.

This proactive approach reflects an ongoing commitment by health authorities to engage the community in preventative measures, which is vital for managing such outbreaks. Past experiences with seasonal outbreaks have shown that community involvement and prompt action can significantly mitigate the impact of these health challenges.

In light of these developments, remaining informed and participating in preventative actions offer a hopeful perspective on controlling the spread of dengue fever, emphasizing the importance of community cooperation in safeguarding public health during this critical period.
