Recent statistics from the Ministry of Health and Medical Services have confirmed a total of 1,277 reported cases of dengue fever across the country. The majority of these cases, amounting to 757, were identified in the Western Division, which has been under official outbreak status since the beginning of the year. The Central Division reported 273 cases, while the Northern Division recorded 221 cases and the Eastern Division noted 31 cases.

Health officials have linked the recent surge in dengue cases to increased rainfall and flooding experienced nationally in recent months. This trend has led to a notable rise in hospital visits related to dengue, particularly within the Western Division, prompting the Ministry to keep a close watch on hospital admissions.

In response to this escalation, the Ministry organized outbreak response training for health teams across divisions, equipping them with the necessary skills to manage potential outbreak scenarios effectively. This training took place during the annual Divisional Outbreak Response Training conducted in the latter part of the year.

To mitigate the growing number of dengue cases, health authorities are actively employing response strategies focused on early identification, prompt treatment, and referrals. The Ministry is urging the public to remain vigilant and engage in preventative measures against dengue, including community initiatives to control mosquito populations.

This current response mirrors previous seasonal outbreak strategies, which emphasize that increased rainfall can create favorable conditions for mosquito breeding. Community involvement and educational outreach are crucial in managing public health risks, as health officials continually stress the importance of seeking immediate medical help if dengue symptoms arise.

The proactive measures taken by health officials, together with strong community participation, foster a positive outlook for managing the dengue outbreak and protecting public health in affected regions. This commitment to safeguarding communities against dengue fever is commendable and reflects a robust response to public health challenges.
