Demand for Drug Rehabilitation Center Surges in Fiji

Fiji urgently requires a drug rehabilitation center, says Fiji Council of Churches president Reverend Simione Tugi.

Reverend Tugi stated that the illicit drug trade has intensified the country’s drug addiction issues, resulting in a rise in drug-related crimes and violence.

“We desperately need a rehabilitation center,” Reverend Tugi emphasized.

He pointed out that establishing a drug rehabilitation center in Fiji with appropriate programs would be a significant step forward in combating drug addiction and restoring individuals’ lives.

The council has been collaborating with the California-based Drug Free World to raise awareness about drug issues in Fiji. Invitations were extended to Minister for Women and Children Lynda Tabuya and Health Minister Dr. Atonio Lalabalavu to meet with ambassador Jessica Brown from June 19 to June 21, with the aim of setting up a rehabilitation center in Fiji.

Although this meeting was postponed, Ms. Brown is expected to return to Fiji in August or September.

“Then we will arrange another appointment to see them,” Reverend Tugi added.
