The inquiry investigating the late boxer Ubayd Haider’s case is still ongoing, and the family will need to remain patient as they await critical information. The Board of Inquiry (BOI), led by chairman Edwin Wainiqolo, has encountered some delays due to challenges in contacting various stakeholders involved in the South Pacific Boxing promotion that took place in October.

During a media briefing in Nadi, Wainiqolo noted that of the 17 identified stakeholders, 12 have already been interviewed over the past three weeks. However, difficulties remain in reaching the remaining five stakeholders, most of whom are located offshore. These challenges have been exacerbated by emerging issues and the fact that some stakeholders are currently communicating privately with their legal representatives, complicating the timeline for the investigation.

Wainiqolo explained that some international bodies, like the International Boxing Organization (IBO), have also been reluctant to engage in the proceedings, citing their own regulations. Consequently, the BOI has referred some complex matters to the solicitor general’s office to receive guidance on how to proceed.

As the inquiry continues, Wainiqolo was cautious not to speculate or provide details regarding potential foul play, the results of the post-mortem examination, the adequacy of medical checks, adherence to regulatory procedures, or any existing medical conditions that Haider may have had. He indicated that answers to these critical questions will only be available once the investigation reaches its conclusion.

While the delays may seem frustrating, it is important to emphasize that thoroughness and accuracy in such a sensitive matter are crucial. The BOI’s commitment to detailed investigations underscores the importance of accountability and transparency in the sport, ensuring that the integrity of boxing is upheld and that the Haider family receives the clarity they deserve.

Summary: The inquiry into the circumstances surrounding Ubayd Haider’s death is ongoing, facing delays due to difficulties in contacting stakeholders, particularly those situated overseas. The BOI’s chairman, Edwin Wainiqolo, assured that the investigation aims to provide accurate findings, which will address the family’s questions once completed.
