For the past 20 years, Adrian Sofield, a Nadi businessman, has dedicated his time to picking up rubbish along Denarau Road.
He was seen yesterday singlehandedly collecting litter along the roadside.
Mr. Sofield travels from his home in Votualevu, a five-minute drive to Denarau, for his regular cleanup effort.
The managing director of Earth (South Pacific) Limited said he and his family have been committed to this for the past two decades.
“I’ve been picking up rubbish here consistently. Often, people park in these areas, eat, and leave their rubbish behind. Some toss their rubbish along the roadside while heading to or from Denarau,” he explained.
“It’s disheartening to see this litter.”
Mr. Sofield emphasized that Denarau Road, being a tourist route, requires constant upkeep.
“This road leads to five-star hotels. Shouldn’t we want tourists to see a clean environment? We should take pride in our surroundings,” he said.
“I choose to do this to emphasize the importance of maintaining our environment.”
Mr. Sofield has an extensive record of public service. He has served as the former chairman of Fijian Holdings Limited (FHL), Airport Fiji Limited, and Rewa Dairy Limited.
Additionally, he has been chairman of Investment Fiji, director of Housing Authority and Public Rental Boards, and chairman of Fiji Hardwood Corporation. He currently serves as chairman for Naisoso Island Corporate.
Currently, he operates his own company, Earth (South Pacific) Limited in Nadi, providing sustainable wastewater, sewage, and odor control solutions.
