Dedicated Businessman Cleans Up Tourist Route for 20 Years

For the past two decades, Adrian Sofield, a businessman from Nadi, has committed himself to picking up rubbish along Denarau Road.

Yesterday, he was spotted singlehandedly collecting litter along the roadside.

Mr. Sofield makes the short five-minute drive from his home in Votualevu to Denarau for his regular cleanup effort.

The managing director of Earth (South Pacific) Limited shared that he and his family have been dedicated to this cause for the last 20 years.

“I’ve been consistently picking up rubbish here. Often, people park in these areas, eat, and leave their rubbish behind. Some toss their rubbish along the roadside while heading to or from Denarau,” he explained.

“It’s disheartening to see this litter.”

Mr. Sofield stressed that Denarau Road, as a tourist route, requires constant upkeep.

“This road leads to five-star hotels. Shouldn’t we want tourists to see a clean environment? We should take pride in our surroundings,” he said.

“I choose to do this to emphasize the importance of maintaining our environment.”

Mr. Sofield has an extensive record of public service. He has served as the former chairman of Fijian Holdings Limited (FHL), Airport Fiji Limited, and Rewa Dairy Limited.

Furthermore, he has been chairman of Investment Fiji, director of Housing Authority and Public Rental Boards, and chairman of Fiji Hardwood Corporation. He currently serves as chairman for Naisoso Island Corporate.

At present, he operates his own company, Earth (South Pacific) Limited in Nadi, which provides sustainable wastewater, sewage, and odor control solutions.
