Fiji Airways Fijiana 7s captain Verenaisi Ditavutu has expressed her enthusiasm for the impact of debutant Alfreda Fisher at the Singapore Sevens. Fisher, who also captains the national Fijiana 15s team, is adjusting to the fast-paced environment of the sevens format and has quickly become a positive influence within the squad.

Transitioning from rugby fifteens, Fisher has taken part in the Fijiana 7s training camp, leveraging her experience as the youngest captain of the national fifteens team. Ditavutu praised Fisher for her dedication and the high standards she has set in terms of discipline and attitude. “It’s been good, trying to be a role model to everyone and trying to be the best,” Ditavutu shared. She encourages her teammates to “be the best version of yourself every day and be a role model to each other.”

Despite her naturally reserved demeanor, Fisher’s presence has been strongly felt, particularly during the training sessions. As she continues to adapt to the different demands of sevens rugby, her willingness to ask questions and learn has been commendable. Ditavutu noted, “She’s enjoying it… but being around the team, she’s always asking questions because it’s a different environment from fifteens and sevens.”

The Fijiana 7s team is set to face Australia this Saturday at 3.26 PM, followed by matches against the USA at 6.30 PM and Japan at 9.56 PM. Fans can catch the action live on FBC TV. The continued evolution of players like Alfreda Fisher signals a bright future for Fijiana rugby as they work towards establishing themselves in the Sevens Series.
