Debut Star Loganimasi Shines as Flying Fijians Triumph in Pacific Nations Cup

Flying Fijians debutant Ponipate Loganimasi made a significant impact in the team’s 41-17 victory over Japan, securing the Pacific Nations Cup title on Saturday. Coming off the bench in the second half, Loganimasi scored his first try in the 59th minute, increasing Fiji’s lead to 18-10. He followed this with another try in the 74th minute, accompanied by a successful conversion from Isaiah Armstrong Ravula, solidifying their championship win.

Loganimasi was included in the matchday squad as a replacement for Selestino Ravutaumada, who is currently recovering from surgery. After the match, team coach Mick Byrne commended Loganimasi’s performance, noting that his inclusion was a chance to showcase his talent due to Ravutaumada’s injury.

“Ponipate (Loganimasi) was there, and an opportunity came, ironically, through Selestino’s injury,” Byrne stated in the post-match press conference. He expressed optimism about Loganimasi’s future, saying, “He’s had a great debut and we’re looking forward to the career that’s in front of him.”

Byrne also mentioned that Iosefo Masi had recommended that Loganimasi replace Ravutaumada in the lineup. When questioned about Loganimasi’s physique, Byrne dismissed concerns regarding his size, asserting, “I think he has a great size, and as a young player, he’s got a great frame to work on and he’s got a big future in front of him.”
