The iTaukei Land Trust Board (TLTB) has announced that tenants with outstanding lease payments must come forward to address their arrears by November 30, 2024, or risk having their names published in the media. According to TLTB General Manager for Estate Services, Isoa Tuwai, there are currently 14,661 tenants who owe a combined total of $16.7 million in arrears.

Tuwai emphasized the importance of tenants taking responsibility and acting promptly to resolve these debts to avoid serious consequences. He expressed TLTB’s commitment to collaborating with tenants to find feasible solutions, while underscoring the necessity of clearing outstanding balances to prevent legal actions.

This situation serves as a reminder of the critical need for tenants to manage their finances effectively. By addressing their arrears now, tenants could potentially avoid complications and foster a more positive relationship with the TLTB.

In a hopeful note, this proactive outreach by TLTB may lead tenants to seek assistance and solutions that can mitigate financial difficulties, promoting both stability and accountability for the future.
