Pop singer Dawn Richard will be testifying again in the sexual trafficking trial of Sean “Diddy” Combs. Last week, she recounted hearing and witnessing years of physical and emotional abuse inflicted by Combs on his then-girlfriend, Cassie Ventura. Richard described a particularly violent incident in 2009 where Combs allegedly beat Ventura and dragged her by her hair, followed by broken glass and screams heard from the upstairs.
Richard’s testimony is critical as she also claimed that after the incident, Combs tried to manipulate those who witnessed the assault, offering them flowers and suggesting their careers might suffer if they reported what they saw. As Combs, 55, faces serious charges, including racketeering and sex trafficking, he maintains his innocence and has pleaded not guilty to all five felony counts. Should he be convicted, he could potentially face a prison sentence of 15 years to life.
Cassie Ventura, now 38 and pregnant with her third child, has been the prosecution’s primary witness, alleging that Combs coerced her into participating in drug-fueled sexual parties termed “Freak Offs.” She detailed her struggles with emotional and physical abuse, recounting a traumatic instance of rape by Combs in August 2018 after their breakup.
In the backdrop of the trial, Ventura has reportedly settled her civil lawsuit against Combs for $20 million, which she filed in November 2023 detailing her experiences. Meanwhile, Richard has also instituted a lawsuit accusing Combs of creating inhumane working conditions, including sexual misconduct.
