Jone Davule, a gold medallist from the Pacific Games, is one of eleven male athletes nominated for the Sportsman of the Year award at the Fiji Sports Awards. Upon receiving the news during the nominees presentation for the 2023 Fiji Sports Awards, the boxer expressed his surprise and gratitude, stating he was left speechless.
At 28 years old, Davule reflected on his boxing journey, describing it as emotional and humbling. He attributed his success to his self-belief, along with the support he has received from his management, coach, and motivators. He also offered thanks to the Lord for the blessings he has received.
Davule mentioned that he never envisioned achieving such a level of success, yet he remains committed to striving for even greater accomplishments in the sport. “I never believed I was nominated for this category, and there is nothing I can say but to thank the Lord for what he has done for me. I never dreamt of achieving this, but I keep believing in myself, as I believe there is more to come. I want to continue boxing to achieve greater things,” he remarked.
Despite currently undergoing a six-month rehabilitation program, Davule views this nomination as a chance to advocate for boxing on regional and international platforms. He also aspires to inspire budding boxers by showcasing that with dedication and belief, anything is achievable in sports.
