Jonathan Hill achieved a knockout victory over Rupeni Rokoratu in the second round of the South Pacific Boxing Promotion held at Subrail Park in Labasa yesterday.
Hill managed to defeat the larger Rokoratu with a powerful punch to the chest. Despite weighing 10 kilograms less than his opponent, Hill was confident about his chances in the match.
“I knew he was coming to take me out because of the weight difference,” he remarked, likening the bout to the classic story of David and Goliath, noting the contrast between a middleweight and heavyweight fighter.
Hill explained that his strategy involved tiring out Rokoratu in the first round before delivering a decisive body shot, which he is notably recognized for. He acknowledged Rokoratu’s skills but pointed out a lack of composure on his part.
He expressed hope that more competitions in Labasa could lead to tougher challenges for fighters in the region.
