Jonathan Hill achieved a knockout victory over Rupeni Rokoratu in the second round of the South Pacific Boxing Promotion event held at Subrail Park in Labasa yesterday. Hill managed to defeat the larger Rokoratu with a powerful punch to the chest.
Despite a 10-kilogram weight difference, Hill was confident in his ability to win. “I knew he came in to take me out due to the kilograms gap difference,” he stated. He likened the fight to the biblical story of David and Goliath, noting the dramatic weight disparities between himself and his opponent.
Hill explained that he secured the win with a strategically placed body shot after tiring his opponent in the first round. “I tried to make him tired in the first round and then gave him a body shot. That’s the type of shot I’m known for,” he remarked.
While Hill acknowledged Rokoratu as a good fighter, he pointed out that his opponent lacked composure. He also expressed hope for more competitive events in Labasa to help elevate the level of boxing in the region.
