Daniel Kim, the president of Grace Road, is set to gain his freedom soon following a ruling by the Lautoka High Court. The court has directed that Kim’s legal team engage with the Permanent Secretary for Immigration next week to negotiate an amicable settlement for his release. This ruling also extends to another member of Grace Road, Dr. Sung Jin Lee.
Justice Anare Tuilevuka noted that both Kim and Lee have consistently expressed their willingness to adhere to any terms set for their release. Consequently, the court has ordered that they be released once a suitable settlement is reached with their legal representatives.
The matter is scheduled for another mention in Suva on December 2, 2024, at 2:00 p.m. to determine if an agreement has been successfully negotiated. If no settlement is achieved, the court plans to establish the terms during this meeting. In the meantime, a production order has been issued to ensure Kim and Lee are presented in court on the same date.
Kim has been in detention since October 5, 2023, and the recent developments suggest a positive turn in his legal situation.
This ruling not only brings hope for Kim and Lee but also signifies a potential resolution to an ongoing legal matter. The forthcoming discussions next week could pave the way for their release and may well symbolize a broader commitment to resolving complex immigration issues amicably.
