Authorities are urging parents and the community to educate children about the dangers and legal consequences of splashing water on moving vehicles. This warning comes in response to rising concerns from motorists since the beginning of the New Year.

Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations (ACPO) Livai Driu mentioned that a troubling video circulated on social media, which depicted a bus driver being targeted by such actions. “These behaviors can lead to accidents, potentially resulting in injuries or fatalities. We urge everyone to celebrate responsibly and refrain from throwing water on vehicles,” ACPO Driu stated.

He further highlighted that those who engage in splashing water on vehicles could face legal repercussions under the Minor Offences Act of 1971 or the Crimes Act of 2009, specifically for negligent acts that could cause harm. Notably, the severity of the consequences could escalate to charges of murder, depending on the extent of any resulting injuries.

ACPO Driu emphasized that many young people may not fully grasp the seriousness of their actions, making it crucial for parents to step in and provide guidance. He also encouraged community members to take an active role in advising children against such behavior.

The police will remain vigilant and continue to monitor for such incidents, with a call for everyone to look out for each other to ensure community safety.

This proactive approach not only highlights the importance of legal responsibility but also fosters a sense of community support and awareness. Educating children about safety and legal consequences can lead to a more mindful celebration that prioritizes the well-being of all individuals on the road.
