A topical disturbance, identified as TD01F, was located 154 kilometers west-southwest of Yasawa-i-Rara and 152 kilometers west-northwest of Nadi at 3 PM today. The system is currently moving southeast at approximately 20 kilometers per hour. According to the Fiji Meteorological Service, the likelihood of TD01F developing into a cyclone over the next 24 to 48 hours is low.

Despite this, the associated low-pressure trough is expected to bring continued cloud cover and rainfall to Fiji, affecting the region until tomorrow. Residents can anticipate occasional heavy rains and thunderstorms affecting many areas.

Coastal regions, particularly in Yasawa and Mamanuca group, as well as the western half of Viti Levu (from Sigatoka to Ra), Vanua Levu, Taveuni, Kadavu, Lau, and the Lomaiviti group, will experience fresh to strong northwest winds. Wind speeds are projected to range from 37 to 46 kilometers per hour, with gusts potentially reaching 55 kilometers per hour.

As a safety precaution, a heavy rain warning has been issued for the entire Fiji group. Additionally, a flood alert is currently in effect for flood-prone regions near major rivers, while flash flood warnings are in place for low-lying areas and small streams in Vanua Levu, along with western and interior regions of Viti Levu.

This situation emphasizes the importance of preparedness and vigilance in the face of severe weather, and residents are urged to stay informed and take necessary precautions to ensure their safety.

It’s crucial for communities to remain aware and follow updates from local authorities as conditions can change rapidly.
