Tropical Cyclone Rae is currently tracking south-southwest towards the Lau group, moving at approximately 15 km/h, according to the Fiji Meteorological Service. As of 6:00 PM tonight, the cyclone is expected to be situated about 90 km northwest of Kabara and 100 km northeast of Matuku. Anticipated projections indicate that by 6:00 AM Tuesday, TC Rae will be 160 km south-southeast of Matuku and roughly 180 km south-southwest of Kabara.
In light of this developing weather situation, a hurricane warning has been issued for the Moala group. Additionally, a storm warning is active for areas including Vanua Balavu, Tuvuca, Lakeba, Moce, Cicia, Nayau, Mago, Yacata, Katafaga, Oneata, Vatoa, Fulaga, Nairai, and Gau. A gale warning applies to eastern regions of Vanua Levu (including Cakaudrove Province, Eastern Macuata, and Southern Bua), as well as Cikobia, Naqele Levu, Taveuni, Koro, Ovalau, and Ono-I-Lau. Strong wind alerts remain in effect for other parts of Vanua Levu and northeastern Viti Levu, alongside a heavy rain warning applicable throughout the entire Fiji group.
This intensification of TC Rae follows its recent elevation from Tropical Depression status, highlighting a need for community vigilance. Heavy rain and potential flooding could pose significant risks, particularly in low-lying areas.
