Tropical Cyclone Rae continues to pose a significant threat as it tracks south-southwest over the Lau Group, where it is anticipated to gradually intensify. Currently classified as a Category 2 cyclone, Rae is located just southeast of Cicia Island. Strong winds and heavy rainfall are key concerns, prompting the Fiji Meteorological Service to issue various warnings across the region.

A storm warning remains in place for multiple islands within the Lau Group, including Moce, Nayau, Oneata, Vatoa, Fulaga, Namuka-i-Lau, Kabara, and the Moala Group. Additionally, a strong wind warning is applicable to eastern parts of Vanua Levu, northeastern Viti Levu, and surrounding smaller islands as wind speeds can reach up to 90 km/h, with gusts even higher in some areas.

The Nadi Weather Office has also extended a heavy rain warning for the entire Fiji Group, which raises concerns about potential flooding in low-lying regions. An active convergence zone has brought gale force winds to the northern and eastern sections of Fiji, emphasizing the need for community vigilance and preparedness.

Reflecting on the lessons learned from past weather disturbances, such as Tropical Disturbance 01F, Fijians are reminded of the strength found in solidarity and collective action during crises. Local leaders are urging residents to secure their properties, stockpile emergency supplies, and stay informed through local updates.

While the storm presents immediate challenges, it also serves as a reminder of the resilient spirit of the Fijian community. This disaster could foster greater cooperation among residents, reinforcing relationships and mutual support, ultimately helping individuals navigate through the difficulties posed by the impending weather conditions.

As communities prepare for the storm’s impact, there is hope in their potential to come together, drawing from their rich history of resilience and mutual support in addressing natural adversities.
