The Fiji Meteorological Service has issued a Tropical Cyclone Warning for a tropical depression referred to as 09F, currently located approximately 255 kilometers northeast of Cikobia and 290 kilometers northeast of Udu Point. This system is anticipated to strengthen into a tropical cyclone within the next 12 to 18 hours.
At 6 AM, the depression was noted to have maximum sustained winds of 55 km/h, with gusts reaching up to 80 km/h. Forecasts indicate that wind speeds may rise to 65 km/h, and gusts could escalate to 90 km/h shortly. The system is moving slowly and is expected to track southward towards Fiji.
This warning follows previous advisories regarding disturbances such as TD09F, which were assessed to have a low to moderate likelihood of developing into cyclones. Earlier disturbances have brought strong winds and heavy rainfall to the region, highlighting the necessity for community readiness. Residents, particularly in the Northern Division and northeastern Viti Levu, are urged to stay alert, as strong winds and intense rainfall could lead to localized flooding and hazardous sea conditions.
The current weather situation not only underscores the importance of preparation but also highlights the community’s resilience and solidarity during such challenging times. As residents brace for the potential impacts of 09F, they are encouraged to keep informed through the latest weather updates and to follow safety protocols.
This period poses a chance for the community to unite, reinforcing their collective preparedness and strength in the face of natural calamities. By staying connected and supporting each other, the impact of possible weather events can be mitigated, showcasing the strength and determination of the Fijian spirit.
