Eli Hirschauge, ANZ’s Head of Information Security, revealed that financial institutions such as the ANZ Group are facing a relentless assault of cyberattacks each month. These incidents include phishing, business email compromise, invoice fraud, and numerous other sophisticated tactics capable of severely disrupting operations and leading to substantial financial damage.
To combat these challenges, Hirschauge emphasizes a practical framework for businesses to bolster their cybersecurity posture. This involves three key components: awareness, tidiness, and readiness. He advocates for educating staff to recognize and respond to cyber threats, particularly phishing attempts, which remain the most prevalent attack vector. Maintaining updated systems, utilizing strong and unique passwords, and regular data backups can significantly reduce vulnerabilities. Furthermore, creating and practicing incident response plans ensures that organizations are prepared for swift reactions to cyber incidents, similar to health and safety drills.

In a proactive approach to tackle cybercrime, ANZ is set to collaborate with over 100 stakeholders in Fiji this week, providing essential support to address cybercrime issues nationwide.
