The Colonial War Memorial Hospital (CWMH) is ramping up its fight against hospital-acquired infections with significant upgrades to its sterilization systems. Assistant Minister for Health Penioni Ravunawa emphasized the importance of these enhancements, reporting that the installation of new sterilization machines will be pivotal in minimizing cross-infection within hospital services. The upgraded sterilization facilities are set to benefit not only CWMH but also the minor operating theatres located at subdivisional hospitals.

Ravunawa underscored that effective sterilization is essential for safe surgical procedures and infection prevention, thus safeguarding both patients and healthcare professionals. He acknowledged the ongoing challenges posed by cross-infection and other infection risks that are prevalent in hospital environments. However, he expressed gratitude for the support received from bilateral partners and the government, which has enabled these essential upgrades.

While acknowledging existing staffing pressures, particularly due to the migration of experienced medical personnel abroad, Ravunawa assured that the hospital is diligently monitoring its operations to uphold high standards of patient care. The initiative reflects a proactive approach in addressing health service delivery challenges, fostering a safer environment for both patients and healthcare workers alike.

These advancements in sterilization at CWMH mark a promising stride towards enhanced healthcare services and patient safety, showcasing the hospital’s commitment to fighting infections effectively.
