Health Minister Dr. Atonio Lalabalavu has come forward to clarify the status of the upgrade works at the Colonial War Memorial Hospital kitchen, following criticism from the International Women’s Association (IWA) President, Judy Compain, who expressed concerns over unused kitchen facilities and rusting new equipment.
In response to these claims, Dr. Lalabalavu emphasized that substantial renovations have already been completed. He detailed that significant improvements include completed general carpentry work, raised table tops, a newly installed pot wash sink, as well as innovative cooking appliances and taps. Additionally, he mentioned that the kitchen’s cooking gas has been refueled, and essential areas like the meat cutting room are now ready for operation.
Compain’s comments were characterized by Dr. Lalabalavu as only revealing part of the story. He assured the public that operations are set to resume soon, with staff relocation into the kitchen anticipated to begin this weekend.
