The title of Turaga na Vunivalu for Korolevu, Serua has been reinstated after a prolonged absence, with Ratu Tevita Mara Latianara officially installed in a solemn ceremony that took place on Serua Island. The event unfolded with a religious blessing followed by the veivakatikori vakavanua ceremony, attended by church leaders, family members, traditional elders, and important governmental representatives, including the Minister for iTaukei Affairs, Culture and Heritage, Ifereimi Vasu.
The iTaukei Affairs Board conveyed their congratulations to the newly appointed Vunivalu, highlighting his crucial role in preserving the customs, culture, and unity within the community of Vanua Vakaturaga o Korolevu. This ceremony not only marks the restoration of traditional leadership in the region but also signifies a collective acknowledgment by the community of the importance of cultural identity and continuity.
Previous installations of traditional leaders in other regions, such as the recent one for Ratu Jone Rodonumaivanua as Vunivalu of Waimaro after a 12-year gap, have shown similar sentiments of hope and a revival of community spirit.
