Narocivo Village is poised to be a hub of tradition and celebration as hundreds gather for the long-anticipated installation of Roko Tevita Ului Mara as Tui Nayau. This significant event, set to occur today, is steeped in cultural heritage, with attendees expected to don traditional black and white attire, a dress code that has been maintained throughout past installations.
Vaka ni Nayau Akuila Qalo will officiate the ceremony, noting the evolving protocols but emphasizing respect for the tradition and the chiefs. He highlighted that during the church service, only a select few chiefs will occupy front seats, and afterward, Roko Ului Mara will be honored at the chiefly bure, Alofi.
The Methodist Church president’s attendance adds a religious dimension to the event, marking the commencement of the installation with a church service in line with Roko Mara’s wishes. However, unlike typical installations, the traditional four nights of ceremony, known as bogiva, will not take place, as Roko Ului Mara has other commitments. He is expected to return to Lakeba after the ceremony.
This occasion echoes sentiments from prior articles regarding the importance of such leadership transitions in the Lau community, particularly as Ratu Tevita is following in the footsteps of his father, the late Ratu Sir Kamisese Mara.
