A senior Cuban official has charged the Trump administration with escalating tensions between the U.S. and Cuba, suggesting that such actions could lead to a military confrontation. Johana Tablada, the deputy director for U.S. affairs in Cuba’s foreign ministry, made these statements during a press conference at the Cuban Embassy in Washington on Tuesday. Tablada voiced her concerns that the U.S. policies are intentionally aimed at rupturing diplomatic relations, which she believes might condition a military conflict.
The Trump administration has adopted a hardline stance towards Cuba since taking office, including reinstating Cuba’s designation as a State Sponsor of Terrorism, tightening remittance regulations, and blocking migration programs that previously allowed some Cubans to work in the U.S. legally.
