With the countdown to the Super Rugby Pacific season officially underway, the Crusaders have proudly announced their 2025 squad, comprising 38 players. This lineup includes eight newcomers who will experience full-time contracts for the first time, alongside a strong roster of returning Crusaders and All Blacks.

As the team prepares for a pivotal season at Apollo Projects Stadium, fans are encouraged to embrace this momentous occasion, as it will be the team’s final full season at this venue before moving to the new One New Zealand Stadium, located in the heart of the city. This season will hold special significance as the Crusaders reflect on their successful history, having secured seven consecutive titles there.

Head Coach Rob Penney expressed his enthusiasm about the upcoming season, particularly after a tough 2024 campaign. “We’ve got a great group, and all the coaches are looking forward to getting our hands on them and preparing together here at Rugby Park,” he stated. Penney highlighted the strong depth in the squad, blending valuable experience with youthful exuberance.

The team will see a leadership change with Scott Barrett stepping down as captain, and an announcement for his successor will come later this year.

Key new signings include experienced fly-half James O’Connor, known for his nearly two-decade career in rugby. Fans will also be excited about Kyle Preston, a standout halfback who helped the Wellington Lions clinch the Bunnings Warehouse NPC championship.

The Crusaders are also welcoming 20-year-old Aki Tuivailala to their outside backs, who has shown promise through his play with Waikato and the New Zealand U20 team. Additional talent includes Xavier Saifoloi, who will join the loose forwards and will play alongside established players such as All Black Ethan Blackadder and All Black XV player Christian Lio-Willie.

Another highlight in the squad is the emergence of players like Kershawl Sykes-Martin, Antonio Shalfoon, Seb Calder, and Fletcher Anderson, all of whom have impressed coaches and secured their full-time spots thanks to the effectiveness of the Crusaders Academy talent pathway.

Fans are urged not to miss out, as memberships are now available, and tickets for pre-season games are quickly selling out. This season holds the promise of excitement and potential for both the team and its supporters.

As the Crusaders gear up for this new chapter, there’s a palpable sense of optimism and eagerness for what lies ahead. The blend of youthful energy with seasoned leaders is sure to create a compelling season filled with memorable moments.
