As the countdown begins with less than 100 days until the 2025 Super Rugby Pacific season kicks off, the Crusaders are excited to announce their roster, which boasts 38 players, including eight who are being awarded full-time contracts for the first time. The lineup features a strong mix of returning Crusaders and seasoned All Blacks, promising an electrifying season ahead.

The club and its passionate supporters are preparing for a momentous season at Apollo Projects Stadium, marking the final full campaign at this venue before transitioning to the new One New Zealand Stadium in the central city. This year will not only be one of competition but also a celebration of history, as they bid farewell to the ground that has hosted their remarkable seven-title-winning streak.

Head Coach Rob Penney is optimistic about the upcoming season, aiming to rebound from the challenges faced in 2024. Penney expressed enthusiasm about the squad’s talent, saying, “We’ve got a great group, and all the coaches are looking forward to getting our hands on them and preparing together here at Rugby Park.” He emphasized the depth of talent, combining experienced players with energetic new faces.

Significantly, Scott Barrett will step down as captain, with the announcement of his successor expected later in the year. Among the noteworthy new recruits is James O’Connor, who brings nearly two decades of experience to the fly-half position. Fans will also be keen to see Kyle Preston, a standout halfback recognized for his recent success with the Wellington Lions.

Other exciting additions include the promising Aki Tuivailala, known for his dynamic play, and Xavier Saifoloi, who will join the loose forwards alongside All Black Ethan Blackadder and Christian Lio-Willie. The impressive talent pipeline from the Crusaders Academy is showcased by players like Kershawl Sykes-Martin, Antonio Shalfoon, Seb Calder, and Fletcher Anderson, all of whom have made their Super Rugby debuts and earned permanent spots this season.

With memberships now on sale and pre-season game tickets quickly selling out, fans are encouraged to secure their place in what promises to be a thrilling season filled with talent and ambition.

This season holds the potential for the Crusaders to redefine their legacy as they pave the way for a new era in their new home while leveraging the experience of their returning stars and the enthusiasm of new talent.
