Around 1,500 passengers from the Queen Elizabeth cruise ship celebrated the New Year in Suva City. The vessel arrived in Suva early on New Year’s Day, bringing mostly Australian tourists who had a memorable start to 2025.

One tourist shared their experience, stating, “My first impression of Suva City was the welcoming crew. I haven’t been here for 65 years. Having walked around the city, it has truly changed.” Prior to arriving in Suva, the ship docked in Lautoka on New Year’s Eve, where passengers enjoyed a lively atmosphere featuring fireworks, traditional Fijian music, and cultural performances.

Although the stop in Suva was relatively short, it was filled with activity. The Fiji Police Force supported the visitors by setting up information booths throughout the city, ensuring the tourists had access to essential information.

In addition to cultural experiences, many passengers took advantage of shopping opportunities at local stores, including Jack’s of Fiji, where staff warmly welcomed them.

The influx of tourists not only provided a boost to the local economy but also showcased Fiji’s rich culture and hospitality. This festive occasion marked a positive beginning for both the visitors and the residents, highlighting the vibrancy of Suva City and the welcoming spirit of Fiji.

Overall, the arrival of the Queen Elizabeth cruise liner in Suva during the New Year underscores the importance of tourism in fostering connections and promoting local culture. It reflects the resilience of the tourism sector and offers hope for future growth as more travelers seek experiences in beautiful destinations like Fiji.
