Crucial Steps Towards Accountability: Attorney-General Promises Change

Attorney-General Graham Leung emphasized the importance and urgency of establishing the Accountability and Transparency Commission. Speaking during the budget debate in Parliament last Monday, he committed to putting in place the necessary legislative measures to create the commission.

“This will be a significant step towards promoting good governance, reducing corruption, and building trust among our people,” Leung stated.

He further explained that the commission would ensure greater accountability within the government, ensuring public officials are held responsible, resulting in fairer treatment of the public.

“When people see how decisions are made and how funds are allocated and spent, it will bolster their confidence in the government and our democratic institutions,” Leung added.

He highlighted that the Accountability and Transparency Commission would support good governance, aligning with Fiji’s National Development Plan and the UN Sustainable Development Goals.
