The Judicial Services Commission (JSC) is convening with former Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption (FICAC) Commissioner Barbara Malimali and her legal counsel, alongside representatives from the State including the Solicitor-General, and Simione Valenitabua, who represents the Prime Minister. This meeting aims to discuss their compliance with the recent Orders issued by the High Court.

Tomasi Bainivalu, the JSC Secretary, indicated that the Commission, in coordination with the Acting Attorney-General, is poised to deliver independent recommendations to the President regarding the implications of the judgment. The JSC is committed to taking all necessary actions to ensure the resolution of issues surrounding Malimali’s tenure as FICAC Commissioner by March 31, 2026.

The Commission has recognized the judgment made by Justice Dane Tuiqereqere as binding and is proceeding with the next steps delineated in the ruling. In an interview with Fiji One News, Malimali’s attorney, Tanya Waqanika, expressed hope that her client will be reinstated as FICAC Commissioner following today’s discussions.

The outcome of this meeting could have significant implications for the future of FICAC and the enforcement of anti-corruption measures in Fiji, highlighting the ongoing commitment to legal compliance and accountability in the nation’s governance.
