Jiya Jaanvi Prasad, a 20-year-old contestant at the Vodafone Fiji Coral Coast Carnival in Sigatoka, is advocating for awareness and compassion in combating addiction. Sponsored by Rainbow Cool Tech, she stands among seven contestants dedicated to this important cause.

“During the Coral Coast Carnival, we come together to tackle drug addiction,” said Ms. Prasad. “It’s a significant issue that impacts many lives, but we represent hope, recovery, and support. This is my first pageantry experience.”

Ms. Prasad believes that promoting awareness and compassion is essential to breaking the cycle of addiction, ultimately paving the way for a healthier and brighter future for the community. Her family, particularly her parents, Abhinesh and Ranjileen Prasad, who are involved in the tourism sector, have been a source of encouragement in her endeavors.

Hailing from Maro, Nadroga, Jiya attended Tuva Primary School and Nadroga Arya College. Presently, she is pursuing a Bachelor of Arts and a Graduate Certificate in Education at the University of the South Pacific with aspirations of becoming a lawyer.

The carnival, which has resumed after four years, is set to culminate in a crowning ceremony this Saturday, according to committee secretary Ramesh Naidu.

This event not only highlights the talents of young women like Jiya but also serves as a beacon of hope in the fight against addiction, showing that community efforts can lead to meaningful change. Her journey reflects the power of youth activism in addressing critical social issues.

By participating in this carnival, contestants are uniting their voices to spread awareness and support those affected by addiction, demonstrating that collective action can inspire healing and transformation within society.
