Shyna Lata, a 21-year-old from Labasa, is dedicated to raising awareness about the impacts of drug use and unemployment, having seen their effects on families in Narere, Nasinu. She believes that promoting the value of education can help address issues related to drug abuse and unemployment among young people.
Supported by Playland Fantasy Amusement Rides, Lata is one of seven women competing for the 2024 Miss Nasinu Festival crown. She highlighted the importance of government programs to assist young individuals, especially those facing homelessness or drug-related challenges.
Lata noted, “I come from a community that is labelled a red zone, and I’ve seen that most of our youth are school dropouts or involved with drugs.”
The week-long festival is set to conclude on Saturday at the Valelevu grounds.
