Ms. Buteiove also expressed a desire to use this platform to promote themes of love and generosity within her community as well as her commitment to the vanua o Nasama in Nadroga.

Currently in her second year at the National University of Fiji, where she is pursuing a degree in primary education, Ms. Buteiove’s ambition is to become a teacher, showing her dedication not just to her education but to contributing positively to society.

The event was graced by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Tourism and Civil Aviation, Viliame Gavoka, who served as the chief guest. He emphasized the theme of this year’s carnival, “Breaking the Waves of Addiction,” describing it as both timely and impactful. Mr. Gavoka spoke about the negative effects of addiction on communities, likening it to the waves that can erode shores but also asserted the community’s ability to confront these challenges through resilience and compassion.

He urged collective action to combat addiction, suggesting that together, we can create an environment filled with hope and renewal. Mr. Gavoka underscored the importance of tourism to the Fijian economy, celebrating the Coral Coast’s role in attracting visitors to experience Fiji’s beauty and hospitality.

This event not only showcased personal achievements but also fostered a spirit of community and awareness around crucial social issues, promising a hopeful path toward positive change.

In summary, Ms. Buteiove’s victory not only reflects her personal strength and dedication to her family but also highlights a collective commitment to addressing pressing societal issues.
